Beside Myself
I openly regard the nineties as the greatest decade for music. There were so many stand out acts across so many genres. So many breakthrough artists and so many game changers. The list of classic albums from the nineties is probably over a mile long. I actually worked on making a top twenty list for my favorite albums of the nineties it’s just so hard to narrow down to twenty. I may one day complete it and post it to this site. One of my favorite scenes from the nineties was the alternative/grunge scene. So what does that all have to do with this album?
The first time I listened to this album I was reminded of the sound of those great alternative records of the nineties. Listening to it I hear cues from bands like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Our Lady Peace, Third Eye Blind, Better Than Ezra, Silverchair and plenty others. Every song on this album is a perfect call back to those days of driving around Detroit listening to 89x.
The opening track “Disconnect” is easily one of the best songs of the year.
